Relax and unwind with our Lavender Bath Bombs, combining soothing lavender scents with natural color powders for a calming bath experience.
These homemade bath bombs are perfect for a spa-like retreat in your own bathtub.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup baking soda
- ½ cup citric acid
- ½ cup Epsom salt
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 2 tbsp almond oil or coconut oil
- A few drops lavender essential oil
- 1/2 tsp Red Colour Nature Powder
- 1/2 tsp Blue Colour Nature Powder
- Witch hazel in a spray bottle (as needed)
- Dried lavender flowers (optional)
Equipment:
- Mixing bowls
- Whisk
- Bath bomb molds or silicone molds
- Spray bottle
- Gloves (to prevent staining your hands)
Directions:
-
Dry Ingredient Mix: In a large bowl, combine baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salt, and cornstarch. Ensure these ingredients are well mixed to avoid a gritty texture in your bath bombs.
-
Add Color and Oils: In a separate small bowl, mix the almond or coconut oil, lavender essential oil, and Colour Nature powders. Whisk this mixture into the dry ingredients until the color is evenly distributed.
-
Achieve the Right Consistency: The mixture should hold together when squeezed without crumbling. If it's too dry, lightly spritz it with witch hazel from the spray bottle. Be cautious – too much liquid can activate the fizz prematurely!
-
Mold the Bath Bombs: Press the mixture firmly into bath bomb molds. If you like, add dried lavender flowers to one side of the mold before filling it for an extra touch of luxury.
-
Dry the Bath Bombs: Leave the bath bombs in the molds for a few minutes, then gently remove them and place them on wax paper. Allow them to dry for at least 24 hours in a cool, dry area.
-
Storage: Once completely dry, store the bath bombs in an airtight container to preserve their scent and fizz.
Additional Tips:
-
Handling Color Powder: When working with color powders, wear gloves to avoid staining your hands and work on a surface that’s easy to clean.
-
Mixing Thoroughly: Ensure that the color and oil are evenly distributed through the dry ingredients to avoid spots or streaks in your bath bombs.
-
Moisture is Key: If the mixture isn't sticking together properly, it's likely too dry. Spritz it with just enough witch hazel to get it to a damp-sand consistency.
-
Pack Tightly: The tighter you pack the mixture into the molds, the less likely it is to crumble when dry.
-
Curing Time: Resist the temptation to use your bath bombs right away. They need time to set to create that perfect fizz.
